Grid-Connected Systems
In grid-tied systems, we link your solar panels to your home's electricity supply. Your energy comes first from solar, and only if you need more does it come from the main grid. Any extra solar power goes back to the grid.
Different places have different ways of paying you for this extra power. Some just flip your meter backward (Net-Metering), while others pay you a bit less for what you export compared to what you pay for imported electricity if you install a Smart-Meter.
Standby Solar Systems
A backup system helps you dodge power outages. It stores energy in batteries for use during grid failures. It kicks in instantly, making load shedding seamless. You choose what areas get power during outages (lights, TV, Alarm, Microwave), affecting the system cost. More items mean a pricier setup.
Backups can work with or without solar. Without, batteries charge from the grid, used during outages.
With solar, your capacity increases as panels contribute. You consume what you produce; surplus charges the batteries. Take it a step further by connecting your solar backup to the grid. When batteries are full and you produce excess energy, export it to the main grid.
